Paradise Garden Resort

Paradise Garden Resort started in 2008 to not much of a fanfare. It was stuck out on the edge of Thong Nai Pan Yai next to the waste land that was sometimes used to play games of footie and keepy-uppy. It was designed as a basic bungalow resort for those looking for long term rentals. At the time many of the ex-pats living locally lived elsewhere.

However, over the years Ouk has managed to carve out a nice business at Paradise. Thong Nai Pan Noi has lost most of its cheap rooms. The bungalows for rent in the forest next to Wang Thong Waterfall have raised their prices. Suddenly Paradise Garden Resort seemed a more attractive proposition.

Moreover, Ouk upgraded to concrete bungalows and added air-con and hot water. The bungalows are spacious and have a balcony looking out to a small garden. It isn’t a stunning tropical garden, but it is a pleasant spot set back from the main village road.

At the entrance to the resort is a small bar and restaurant. You cannot be guaranteed of either food or drink if you go there. Rather, Ouk has spur-of-the-moment gatherings to drink, eat, carouse and perhaps watch a game of footie. It is a friendly crowd with a non-tourist bias.

The owner, Ouk, is friendly and likes to chat. He can sort things out for his guests but largely leaves them to get on with their own thing. In some ways Paradise is a throw-back to the original hospitality extended to backpackers coming to Koh Phangan.

I expect you could rent out one of the bungalows at Paradise for a few days. However, they are hard to get as most people rent them out by the month. The going rate is 12,000 Thai Baht a month.

If you are looking for a cheap monthly rental near enough to easily stroll to the beach then Paradise Garden Resort in Thong Nai Pan Yai is you best option.

You can now (theoretically) book Paradise Garden Resort online using Agoda. This is a new development, and you might find that the resort is 'not available' for the dates you choose.
